About St Giles
The main organ of St Giles

From the Rector of St. Giles, Cripplegate, the Revd Katharine Rumens

We are proud to have such high standards of music making and organ education at St. Giles.  Please help up develop this tradition to enable us to meet an ever-increasing demand and to enrich the ministry of the Church

St. Giles Cripplegate Church, Barbican, London EC2 celebrates the completion of its eight-year fundraising project with a concert on all three of its mechanical action organs.   The concert, on Monday 1st June 2009 at 1830, will feature David Titterington, James O’Donnell, Stephen Disley, Nikola Eckertova and Anne Marsden Thomas in works by Bach, Buxtehude, Eben, Langlais and Mozart for organ solo, organ duet and two organs.

Titterington and Disley will use the 39 stop Jordan&Bridge/Willis/Jones/Mander Grand Organ in duo with the new 15 stop Mander Chancel Organ to play Eben’s Mutationes and Langlais'  "Jerusalem Mirabilis" (No 3 of Trois Esquisses Romanes).   Eckertova and Marsden Thomas will play Mozart’s Fantasia in F minor and major K. 594 in duet on the new 5-stop Tickell practice organ. O’Donnell will play solos, including Bach and Buxtehude,  on the Grand and Chancel organs.

Video screens will display all performers, and the practice organ (sited in the soundproofed vestry) will be amplified.

John Scott writes:
This visionary project is good news for music, for organists, and for the community

We have a vision to develop our commitment to worship, education, and service to the community.  The lack of an east end organ and deterioration of the main organ had threatened our existing regular and community activities.  This has been our vision:

1) To clean and overhaul the present organ
2) To provide an east end pipe organ
3) To provide a small practice organ in a newly soundproofed vestry.

We have now achieved our vision.  The east, or 'Chancel' organ was installed in 2008 and the practice organ was installed in early 2009.  The west, or 'Grand' organ has been cleaned and restored.'
